"I don't do different things, I do things differently." - by Shiv Khera

Academically, I will continue to strive to put forth all of my effort into my classes. I will challenge myself, and work hard at what does not come easy. My goal is to do the best I can and to have fun as I do it. I will focus more on my career decisions than my instincts and passions. Support from my wonderful family has helped also. Their encouragement has kept me strong through the hard times and good times.

Secondly, I want to be involved in something that I really enjoy doing. Over the years I have learned that any job I have had that consisted of something that I enjoyed doing lasted for a long duration. On the other hand, if I disliked the work, no matter what the other circumstances were, the time that I was there was very short-lived. When I look at something that I am going to be doing for a good part of my life it must be enjoyable to me. I dont want to be one of those people who come home from work everyday unhappy, and dreading the next day. My occupation must be stable, and if I hate what I am doing, it is definitely not going to be stable.

My profession must give me financial security. Money isnt everything, but it is surely important. I feel that making an adequate income is something that can only help matters. However, in todays world people are entirely too wrapped up in their bank accounts. I view money as only one aspect of life while it seems to me that others view it as everything. I think that if I am financially secure, I will be less focused on how I can get more money, and more focused on everything else life has to offer.

My personal life will be the last determining factor as to what I am to be ten years from now. As I look at the year of school ahead of me I know that I want to be able to discover all of myself. I want to be able to develop my weaknesses into strengths. I want to experience freedom and try new things. This year I want to search and discover who I really am and where I fit in the scheme of life. Confusion and too many decisions fill my mind right now. I want to be able to sort them out slowly and make the best decisions.

In conclusion, I hope to overcome some obstacles that may come my way, while I am trying to achieve my goals. When I receive my diploma from St. John's University in Secondary Education, it will be a great reward and a great asset for me. But it won’t stop there, I’m sure the future holds a lot for me.

  2. I loved reading this post! Very well written with great insights into who you are. I liked what you had to say about doing something you enjoy doing. I agree with you so wholeheartedly; why bother investing time, energy, and money into anything if it is not something you enjoy? I try to live by the motto: Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy. Life is too short to trek on endlessly, hating how you occupy your time. It is more important to search out what you truly care about and invest yourself completely in that. That is when you can achieve true fulfillment in life.

  3. I loved your quote! I believe that people strive to do different things instead of taking the everyday thing and making it different. I live by those words, or at least I try to, especially in my teaching. Also, I agree that in order to be excellent in something you need to enjoy it to a certain degree. The best teachers are the ones that truly love their jobs.

  4. Awesome post. I feel like I really got to know who you are and your views on life and goals in general. I definitely agree with you on wanting to have a career in something you love doing. I have known since I was 7 years old that I wanted to be a teacher and ever since I was old enough to start working the only jobs I have had have been somehow connected to teaching or working with kids. I understand they say its good to try a lot of different jobs out, but I feel if you found what you're passionate about why bother. Plus it helps with the experience and gives you a taste at what life in the real world will be like, I say this because sometimes I'm amazed at people when they say they want to be all these different careers but have never experienced what it would entail.

  5. I love how adamant you are about finding a profession that you really love. So often students are discouraged from going into education because of inadequate pay, long hours, a poor job market, and the general problems that come with the job. Despite all of these issues, though, becoming a teacher can be one of the most wonderful choices that someone ever makes if it's the right field for them. The long hours and daily struggles are worth every minute once you hear positive feedback from your students, and it's a feeling that is definitely irreplaceable. Working with secondary students is especially gratifying because many of them don't automatically love their teachers, so when you do generate positive outcomes with them it feels like a true accomplishment. I wholeheartedly appreciate being surrounded by people who are as passionate about this field as I am.

  6. I could not agree with you more. Having worked for multiple companies I found the same thing. If you love the work you do, it isn't work at all. I found that when working with others I enjoyed sharing ideas with them and bringing them to fruition. What I kept on coming back to was that I missed education. The process of exchanging ideas and intellectualizing thoughts was exciting to me.
